UK defence technology specialist SEA, and BTI Defence, the leading Indonesian defence procurement company have entered into a strategic partnership to provide the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Navy with access to the very latest innovative defence technology in the maritime domain.

The partnership, signed at the Indo Defence Expo & Forum 2022, will see SEA’s capabilities, which have been adopted by defence organisations across the world, marketed exclusively to the Indonesian Armed Forces. SEA develop and deliver technology that is engineered to protect, including a world-leading Torpedo Launcher System, a low-profile and agile Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) solution, Krait Defence System, and Integrated Maritime Communications Systems. All SEA systems are strategically designed to ensure all end users maintain operational advantage within some of the most complex maritime environments.

David Hinds, Vice President of Strategic Accounts at SEA, said: “We’re delighted to have found the right partner in BTI Defence, having explored the defence technology sector in Indonesia over a number of years. As part of the UK Government’s wider strategy to enhance and support Indonesian defence capability, we recognise our part in ensuring they have access to innovative maritime systems for its ongoing security. Through this partnership, Indonesia’s military will have the latest capabilities at its disposal aimed at meeting ever-changing surface and subsurface threats. In particular our flexible and modular Krait Defence System is well suited to the shallow Southeast Asian seas, and we see major potential for the system in the region.”

Founded in 2015, BTI Defence has quickly grown into one of the most well-recognised defence procurement specialists in Indonesia. With a network of global partners, defence specialists within Indonesia as well as a proven track record completing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), modernisation and supply contracts to the Indonesian Armed Forces, BTI Defence is well placed to provide the country with SEA’s innovative solutions.

David Hinds added, “Southeast Asia is a region in which SEA is already active, having recently secured contracts in the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. Our partnership with BTI further expands our presence in the region and boosts our ability to support its unique requirements.”

Peter Tjahjono, Director at BTI Defence, said: “This teaming is a significant milestone for BTI as a company, but most importantly it’s a partnership of strategic significance for the Indonesian Navy.  SEA’s complement of sophisticated underwater solutions are becoming available to Indonesia’s Navy at a time when the emphasis on sub-surface operations in the Indonesian Archipelago is at an all-time high”.
